Job Summary and General Information

The successful candidate will work under the supervision of the Mechanical Team Leader in the Maintenance and Repair Service. The person appointed to this position will be responsible for inspecting, repairing, and maintaining the water supply and plumbing systems in buildings and residences on the University of Moncton campus.

Responsibilities:

  • Read plans, drawings, and specifications to identify the layout of the piping, water supply, and drainage systems.
  • Install, repair, and maintain piping and plumbing fixtures in University buildings.
  • Determine and mark the location of pipe fittings, holes for pipe passage through walls and floors, and other accessories.
  • Drill holes in walls and floors of suitable diameter for pipes and plumbing accessories.
  • Measure, cut, bend, and thread pipes using machines or manual tools.
  • Join pipes using couplings, pipe clamps, nuts, bolts, or adhesive, brazing, or welding materials.
  • Check pipes using manometers to detect leaks.
  • Participate in preparing estimates, as required.
  • Perform any other tasks assigned by their supervisor within their competence.

Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Hold a certificate of competence to practice as a plumber or plumber's assistant.
  • Experience in commercial plumbing.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to maintain good interpersonal and interdepartmental relationships.
  • Display initiative and judgment.
  • Demonstrate a strong work ethic and commitment to quality work.
  • Collaborative spirit and assist, as needed, members of other departments in the execution of their tasks.
  • Good knowledge of occupational health and safety laws and regulations.
  • Good knowledge of French and English, both spoken and written.

Additional Requirements:

  • Ability to work at heights.
  • Ability to work in confined spaces.
  • Ability to work flexible hours as needed.
  • Availability to work overtime.
  • Availability to follow training on asbestos and mold.
  • Valid driver's license in the province of New Brunswick.
  • Ability to provide physical effort to perform tasks, including bending, kneeling, squatting, and lifting weights over 22 pounds.

Assets:

  • Experience in machining.
  • Knowledge of gas networks.
  • Hold a minimum Class 3 certification as a specialized engineer in motive power.
