Job Opportunity

We are seeking a skilled Mental Health Support Specialist to join our team at the Canadian Red Cross.

About the Role

This is a temporary full-time position that involves deploying nationally to support impacted populations, including Indigenous communities and remote areas. You will work closely with other Red Cross personnel and community partners to contribute to service delivery, including conducting psychosocial assessments, identifying community needs, and advocating for recommendations to be integrated into service design.

You will also provide guidance to personnel on complex mental health considerations, lead capacity-building activities, and contribute to continuous improvement of mental health services through end-of-mission reporting and debriefing.

Key Responsibilities
  • Deploy nationally to support impacted populations, including Indigenous communities and remote areas.
  • Conduct psychosocial assessments to understand impacts on affected communities and develop recommendations for service design.
  • Identify community needs and collaborate with partners to ensure holistic support for individuals and communities.
  • Provide guidance to personnel on complex mental health considerations.
  • Lead capacity-building activities and contribute to continuous improvement of mental health services.
Requirements
  • Registered professional with a degree in public health, medicine, psychology, social work, nursing, or a related field.
  • Training and/or experience in Psychological First Aid and crisis intervention.
  • Experience in an emergency environment, such as disaster response or humanitarian crises.
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize affected individuals and communities, coordinate with stakeholders, and think critically about complex issues.
Working Conditions

Advisors are deployed based on operational needs within 24-48 hours for 2-3 weeks. Field missions may involve working in unstable environments with non-traditional working hours and limited access to basic services. A demonstrated ability to work in stressful conditions is required.

Estimated Salary

$36.13 per hour.
