Siemens Energy, a leading global energy technology company, is seeking a highly skilled Design Engineer, Substations to join our Grid Solutions team in Oakville, Ontario.

About the Role

This exciting opportunity will involve working on complex substation projects from detailed engineering to commissioning. As part of our engineering team, you will collaborate with colleagues across various disciplines to deliver high-quality designs and ensure seamless project execution.

The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in electrical engineering, with a minimum of 5 years' experience in substation design and development. A Bachelor's degree or higher in Electrical Engineering is required, and a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) license is preferred.

Key Responsibilities

  • Preparing, reviewing, and modifying engineering documentation and drawings for substation projects
  • Developing switchgear and control room layout drawings for proposals and projects
  • Creating preliminary power single-line diagrams, auxiliary power single-line diagrams, and protection one-line diagrams
  • Designing high-voltage and medium-voltage substation layouts, including plan views, section views, equipment views, and details
  • Performing cable ampacity, grounding, lightning, illumination, and station auxiliary load calculations
  • Creating equipment specifications and detailing bill of materials
  • Reviewing customer request for proposal documentation and identifying necessary exceptions, deviations, or clarifications
  • Developing scope of work and Work Break-down Structure (WBS) documents and high-level engineering execution plans
  • Managing interfaces with internal and external stakeholders, including customers, engineering contractors, suppliers, and site contractors
  • Monitoring and reporting project engineering progress and implementing mitigation and corrective actions
  • Performing technical due diligence and checking on supplier quotes for equipment and engineering services
  • Attending site visits as required to gather information and support construction and commissioning

What We Offer

We offer a competitive salary range of $110,000 - $140,000 per year, commensurate with experience, plus benefits and opportunities for professional growth and development.
