Job Overview

The WNBA Toronto Team is seeking an experienced and strategic General Counsel to join its leadership team. As a key member of the organization, you will play a vital role in driving success and making a significant impact on the growth of women's sports in Canada.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and manage the Team's Legal Department, providing expert legal analysis and advice on various matters, including labor & employment, intellectual property, marketing, data collection, privacy, and tax.
  • Select, manage, and liaise with external law firm counsel and alternative legal service providers as necessary.
  • Oversee all aspects of litigation and dispute resolution on behalf of the Team, including the selection and management of outside counsel.
  • Guide risk management activities for the Team, providing training on risk mitigation to stakeholders, and develop and lead internal corporate compliance programs.
  • Conduct research into various legal issues and provide clear recommendations to stakeholders and staff.
Requirements
  • A minimum of five (5) years legal experience.
  • PREFERRED: Licensed and in good standing to practice law in Ontario.
  • Adaptability - Flexible in the face of change.
  • Service Driven - Interacts positively with executives, clients, customers, guests, and peers.

Compensation

$120,000 - $180,000 per year, depending on experience.
