Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Laboratory Technologist I to join our Medical Laboratory Department at NL Health Services. The successful candidate will be responsible for performing diagnostic laboratory testing in accordance with accepted laboratory standards and policies.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform diagnostic laboratory testing in accordance with accepted laboratory standards and policies.
  • Ensure that all laboratory testing is performed in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Operate all laboratory instruments with confidence and efficiency.
  • Participate in the laboratory department's quality improvement program by monitoring and recording control results.
  • Participate in the departmental equipment maintenance program by performing daily maintenance as outlined in the procedure manual.
  • Assume responsibility for the overall daily operation of the laboratory department as assigned by the Section Lead Technologist II and Department Lead Technologist III.
  • Participate in the rotational system of twenty-four hour emergency standby as assigned by the Technologist II and III.
  • Protect the confidentiality of patient information and abide by the rules and regulations of NL Health Services.
  • Participate in the continuing education programs provided by NL Health Services and the professional association.
Requirements
  • Successful completion of a Medical Laboratory Science training program.
  • Registration with the Canadian Society of Medical Laboratory Science (CSMLS).
  • Registration with the Newfoundland and Labrador Council of Health Professionals.
  • Experience in using the Clinical Meditech Modules - Laboratory Information System, and the Hospital Information System.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to answer questions from staff and other stakeholders concerning procedures and processes in the laboratory department.
  • Willingness to undertake additional and ongoing training in a timeline set by the employer.
Working Conditions

The successful candidate will be required to work in a fast-paced laboratory environment and will be expected to maintain a high level of professionalism and confidentiality at all times.

Salary and Benefits

The salary for this position will be in accordance with the LX-27 of the NAPE-LX salary scales, $30.91 to $38.64 per hour plus the applicable Labrador Allowance.

The successful candidate will also be eligible for a comprehensive benefits package.
