Role Summary

We're looking for a seasoned Senior Software Engineer, Rider to join our team. As a key member, you'll be responsible for leading workstreams that enhance riders' experience with ridesharing services. Your focus will be on developing features that encourage riders to prefer Lyft over other options, building customized solutions for specific use cases like travel, commute, and social activities, and integrating strategic partners into our ecosystem.

About the Role

  • You will define roadmaps and architectures based on business needs and technological requirements.
  • Lead large projects from concept to successful execution.
  • Write high-quality, well-tested, readable, and maintainable code.
  • Carefully consider business context and potential failure modes in your work.
  • Proactively participate in resolving ongoing incidents.
  • Participate in code reviews to ensure code quality and share knowledge within the team.
  • Share expertise through brown bags, tech talks, and promoting appropriate technical and engineering best practices.
  • Unblock and support internal partners to drive results.

Requirements

  • A minimum of 5 years of software engineering industry experience, preferably with a high-level programming language (bonus points for Python or Go).
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related field, or equivalent relevant work experience.
  • Experience defining API schemas and developing backend services in a microservices environment.
  • Familiarity with databases, relational or NoSQL.
  • Ability to write clear and scalable design documentation.
  • Experience designing, building, and improving team-owned components.
  • The ability to quickly learn and adapt when faced with poorly defined or complex problems.
  • Excellent communication skills, including advocating for proposals while empathizing with teammates' goals and priorities.
  • A history of going out of your way to help fellow engineers increase their productivity.
