About the Role

This is an exciting opportunity to join Douglas College as a Mathematics Education Specialist. In this role, you will be responsible for providing exceptional support to students in mathematics tutorials, ensuring they achieve their learning outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

Tutorial Instruction

  • Conduct tutorial sessions for college mathematics courses, utilizing current software and technology to facilitate student learning.
  • Demonstrate graphing calculator use and other mathematical computer software technology.
  • Develop and implement strategies to enhance student engagement and understanding.

Lab Coordination

  • Manage Math Lab activities, ensuring compliance with established curricular objectives and safety procedures.
  • Provide drop-in assistance to students, promoting further understanding of mathematical concepts.
  • Maintain student access to archives, including past exams, solution sets, and textbooks.

Evaluation and Record-Keeping

  • Evaluate student work and performance in relation to tutorial requirements.
  • Assign final tutorial grades and maintain accurate records.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Maintain currency with respect to mathematics instruction and educational technologies.
  • Participate in department meetings and contribute to curriculum design and evaluation.

Requirements

To succeed in this role, you must have a strong educational background in mathematics or education, along with relevant teaching experience and expertise in software and technology. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are essential, as you will interact with students, faculty, and staff from diverse backgrounds.
