Job Summary:

The Loader Operator will be responsible for the safe and efficient operation of a loader in a road construction environment. This position will operate loader equipment with a front-mounted hydraulically powered bucket or scoop, which is used to transport aggregate or other materials, feed hoppers or chutes, and/or stockpile aggregates in water and sewer installation projects.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform daily maintenance and safety checks of equipment; perform routine cleaning and maintenance to ensure the smooth operation of a loader.
  • Understand and follow directions from the supervisor as required by the work area.
  • Operate a loader, controls to lower, tilt bucket, and drive forward to force bucket into bulk material; move a lever to raise and tilt bucket when filled or to dump material.
  • Operate a loader on public or private roadways, maintaining proper awareness of one's surroundings.

Working Environment/Conditions:

  • Work is performed in an outdoor setting, which could include inclement weather, heat, and humidity.
  • Must be physically able to repetitively lift and carry at least 20 LBS on a regular basis.
  • Use of Personal Protection Equipment is required.
  • Use of sunscreen, long sleeves, and appropriate headgear is recommended.
  • Must comply with the company's drug and alcohol testing requirements.

Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum 2 – 3 years of experience in the road construction industry.
  • Class 5 Driver's License; with clean Driver's Abstract.
  • Knowledge of operation of a loader and other heavy equipment.
  • Knowledge of road construction materials, road construction processes and industry requirements.
  • Ensure a sound understanding of the issues involving ground disturbance, computerized controls, and electronics.
  • Ability to work in adverse weather conditions.
  • Physically capable of repetitively lifting and carrying at least 25 lbs. regularly.
