Job Description

As an Assistant Trainmaster, you will play a crucial role in the efficient movement of trains within our network. Your responsibilities will include coordinating arrival, classification, building, inspecting, and dispatching of trains, while ensuring safety, service, productivity, and financial metrics are met.

This leadership position requires you to lead by example, fostering a strong safety culture and coaching operational standards to team members. You will also be responsible for maintaining your qualifications as a qualified Conductor or Locomotive engineer and may be called upon at any time to run trains.

Key Responsibilities

Your key responsibilities will include:
  • Learning and utilizing railroad operating systems, applications, and local operating plans to assign tasks and manage productivity within operations teams;
  • Completing and passing management train conductor certification and being deployed once qualified and as the business requires;
  • Achieving minimum requirements on all phases of the LMT-O program, including written and practical evaluations, online independent learning, and completing all assignments and projects within assigned timelines;
  • Effectively leading Trains and Engines operating employees as a safety leader through active observations and discussions about rule compliance and implementing preventative measures through staff engagement;
  • Modeling the proficiencies of effective leadership, including drive for results, lead others, lead thought, and lead by example.
