**Job Summary**

We are seeking an Urban Operations Assistant to join our team at the City of Richmond Hill.

The successful candidate will be responsible for assisting with the daily operation and maintenance of various city assets within the Public Works Operation Division.

This is a great opportunity for students looking to gain hands-on experience in a dynamic municipal setting.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Assist in ground maintenance, including mowing and trimming activities
  • Contribute to horticultural maintenance, including planting, weeding, and maintenance of annual, perennial, and shrub beds
  • Participate in urban forestry operations, including small and large tree care
  • Aid in waste management, including litter picking and planned garbage/recycling collection and disposal in parks
  • Support parks infrastructure maintenance, including sports field maintenance
  • Assist staff in inspecting, cleaning, and repairing park amenities
  • Collaborate on water and roads maintenance projects
  • Provide support for special events
  • Operate various hand tools and powered equipment
  • Demonstrate the City's corporate values of care, collaboration, courage, and service

Requirements:

  • Currently enrolled in a college or university as a full-time student and returning to school full time for the fall semester
  • Prior experience working in a municipal setting outdoors is considered an asset
  • Ability to understand and carry out verbal and written instructions
  • Good interpersonal skills, with the ability to work in a team environment
  • Ability to deal with the public courteously and effectively
  • Must possess Green Patch CSA approved 8" safety boots
  • Ontario Class "G" Driver's License in good standing and must provide a satisfactory current Drivers Abstract from the Ministry of Transportation Ontario (MTO)
  • Be able to work outdoors during all weather conditions and available to work 7 days a week including holidays
  • Demonstrates good judgment and makes sound decisions
  • Show commitment to personal growth, development, and leadership opportunities
  • Share new ideas and challenges the status quo
  • Proven written and verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate with honesty, openness, respect, and trust
