The Opportunity

We are seeking an Asbestos Analyst to join our team in Ottawa West or Mississauga. The ideal candidate will be detail-oriented, dexterous, and driven to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities:
- Preparation, detection, identification, and quantification of materials for asbestos content using polarized light microscopy (PLM) and/or phase contrast microscopy (PCM).
- Preparation and analysis of asbestos air samples by PCM.
- Use computers to manage workflow and data entry.
- Coordinate sample analyses and data review of all incoming samples based on priority and turn around times.
- Extended periods of microscope work.
- Maintaining the QA/QC Program and following Standard Operating Procedures.
- Assist in daily laboratory operations, including maintenance, calibration, stocking, and cleaning.
- Extended workdays and weekends may occasionally be required.

Qualifications:
- Ability to distinguish colors for analysis.
- College Diploma or suitable Bachelor's Degree in Science (Biotechnology, Geology, or Biology would be an asset).
- Mandatory minimum of 4+ years of experience in asbestos characterization by PLM and/or PCM in a laboratory.
- Superb attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to effectively follow/interpret work instructions, methods, and procedures.
- High degree of manual dexterity.
- Highly reliable and deadline-driven.
- Strong communication skills.
- Thrive in a fast-paced environment.
- Familiarity with Quality Assurance (QA), Quality Control (QC), and ISO 17025.
- Understanding of good laboratory practices.
- Ability to work independently and with a team.
- Proven computer skills, including MS Office.
