Position Overview:

Vancouver Island University is in search of enthusiastic nursing educators to teach a diverse range of courses (including some online) within the Practical Nursing (PN) program across various campuses. The role involves engaging in numerous teaching and learning experiences in clinical, laboratory, and classroom environments.

Key Responsibilities:

PN Instructors will be responsible for:

  • Preparing and delivering course content;
  • Designing and evaluating student assignments and assessments;
  • Facilitating the integration of theoretical knowledge with practical application.

The ideal candidate will thrive in a collaborative faculty environment focused on student-centered education. Candidates should be dedicated to promoting student achievement, creating engaging learning experiences, and providing instructional guidance.

Additionally, instructors will engage in activities beyond the classroom, such as attending departmental and faculty meetings, and contributing to program-related initiatives concerning curriculum development and administrative planning.

Qualifications Required:

Educational Background:

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from an accredited institution, with a current license from the BC College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM);
  • Completion or progress towards the BC Provincial Instructor Diploma Program or its equivalent, or a commitment to complete it within two years;
  • Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) designation from an accredited institution, also with a current license from the BCCNM.

Professional Experience:

  • At least five years of recent experience in medical, surgical, and gerontological nursing;
  • Familiarity with healthcare settings in Central Vancouver Island, including community and acute care;
  • Ability to address the needs of a diverse student body;
  • Strong understanding of the role and responsibilities of LPNs within the healthcare system;
  • Competence in utilizing information technology effectively;
  • Awareness and understanding of Indigenous knowledge and cultural practices.

A valid Class 5 BC Driver's License and a satisfactory driving record are required, as some roles may involve travel to various practice locations.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • A Master's Degree in Nursing or a related field from an accredited institution;
  • Experience in teaching adult learners in a post-secondary environment;
  • Familiarity with educational technology and learning management systems.
