We are looking for a skilled Design Engineer to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for designing heavy mechanical equipment for hydroelectric installations, including overhead cranes, gates, stoplogs, trash racks, embedded parts, and lifting devices for water intakes, draft tube, spillways and water regulation structures.

 

Job Responsibilities

  • Participate in various stages of a hydroelectric project (feasibility, preliminary design, detailed engineering, etc.) for new power plants or refurbishments of existing plants.
  • Review and assimilate contractual technical specifications.
  • Produce design notes for the equipment under your responsibility.
  • Prepare technical specifications for some of the auxiliary systems, such as hydraulic power units (HPUs), pumps, accumulators and piping.
  • Coordinate your deliverables with other relevant disciplines (electrical, automation, civil, etc.).
  • Prepare components schematics complete with component key dimensions.
  • Support the team of drafting technicians with 3D modeling and detail drawing of the equipment under their responsibility.
  • Participate in the preparation of installation procedures.
  • Review and stamp the technical documentation produced under your supervision.
  • Support manufacturing, workshop testing, installation and commissioning of systems.
  • Review and analyze installation report to ensure equipment compliance.
  • Participate in the planning of engineering activities related to projects on which you are assigned.
  • Assist the estimating department in putting together proposals by preparing preliminary design and sketches and identifying strategic assumptions.

 

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering.
  • 8 to 10 years of experience in the design of heavy mechanical equipment for hydroelectric installations.
  • Member of the Ordre des Ingénieurs du Québec.
  • Knowledge of current standards and codes.
  • Experience in designing hydraulic and auxiliary systems for hydroelectric power plants (an asset).
  • Practical experience in hydroelectric power plants or similar systems (an asset).
  • Knowledge of 2D (AutoCAD) and 3D (Solid Work, Inventor, etc.) design software for supervisory purposes.
  • Bilingual (English and French).
  • Ability to work in a team.
  • Results-driven and committed to continuous improvement.
  • Ability to manage several tasks simultaneously.
  • Rigorous and organized.
  • Will to travel occasionally, mainly in Canada.
  • Good adaptability.
