About the Team

At Stripe, we are building a powerful suite of Internal Data Products that enable all Stripes to understand, analyze, and take action based on data and metrics. As the engineering manager of the Internal Data Products Team, you will play a crucial role in building and leading a team of full-stack engineers to design and build high-leverage tooling and user interfaces for data visualization and analysis.

Key Responsibilities
  • Hire, Lead, and Manage a Team of Engineers: Provide mentorship, guidance, and support to ensure the success of your team members.
  • Collaborate with Cross-Functional Teams: Work with senior leadership, data platform, data science, machine learning, and other business organizations to understand user needs and translate them into technical solutions.
  • Define Technical Vision and Roadmap: Align the technical vision and roadmap for the suite of products managed by the team with business objectives and industry best practices.
  • Drive Project Execution: Oversee the entire development lifecycle from planning to delivery, maintaining high standards of quality and timely completion.
  • Foster a Collaborative Work Environment: Promote innovation, knowledge sharing, and continuous improvement within the team.
  • Stay Up-to-Date with Emerging Technologies: Identify opportunities for improvement and innovation by staying current with industry trends and advancements.
  • Communicate Effectively: Provide regular updates on project status, progress, and any potential risks or challenges to stakeholders.
Requirements
  • Leadership Experience: 3+ years of people management experience and 8+ years of technical experience building large-scale user-centric products.
  • Technical Expertise: Managed teams that have shipped and operated large-scale, highly available systems.
  • Passion for Supporting Internal Customers: A passion for supporting internal customers and delivering high-quality software.
  • Desire for a Healthy Work Environment: The desire to encourage a healthy, inclusive work environment that's both supportive and challenging.
  • Clear Communication: Clear and persuasive writing and in-person communication.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Front-End Experience: Experience with front-end technologies, preferably involving data-oriented products or analytics tools and platforms.
  • Server-Side Programming: Experience with server-side programming, data visualization libraries, and an understanding of principles of effective data visualization.
  • Database Experience: Familiarity with relational and non-relational databases, and the ability to design and optimize data schemas to support efficient querying and data processing.
  • Planning and Vision: Experience with planning in quarters and setting a vision for several years.
  • Collaboration: Excited about collaborating with teammates across Stripe's organization to provide a wonderful user experience for key developer workflows.
  • Geographically Distributed Teams: Comfortable working with geographically distributed teams.
