Practice Overview

As a geriatric psychiatrist at Royal Inland Hospital (RIH) and the Kamloops Mental Health & Substance Use (KMHSU) centre, you will play a critical role in providing high-quality care to the elderly population. Your expertise will be instrumental in enhancing the lives of seniors, guiding them through their unique mental health journeys with dignity and respect.

At RIH, you will manage the care of patients on the newly established 30-bed inpatient unit, while at KMHSU, you will contribute to the Seniors Mental Health Program, offering short-term assessment and treatment for moderate to severe psychiatric diagnoses. Your role will also involve case management for those with extreme and persistent conditions, reflecting your deep commitment to this vulnerable population.

Through virtual services and in-person visits, you will expand access to healthcare for both local and rural communities beyond traditional clinical settings. Your unique strengths will be pivotal in navigating the complexities of geriatric psychiatric conditions, employing advanced pharmacological treatments, and providing psychosocial support. Educating patients, their families, and care networks is an essential part of your work, fostering understanding and better management of geriatric mental health issues.

Your dedication to educational excellence could lead to mentorship opportunities with peers, medical undergraduates, postgraduate Family Practice residents, and even an academic appointment with UBC's Faculty of Medicine. We will support your leadership and professional development, recognizing that your growth will enhance our collective mission in geriatric psychiatry.

In this role, you will not only treat conditions but also improve the quality of life for the elderly, marking a profound impact on the community. Your contributions to geriatric psychiatry will advance patient care and offer you a fulfilling professional journey, enriching both your career and personal satisfaction.

Qualifications
  • Eligible for Fellowship with the Royal College of Physicians of Canada (FRCPC)
