Job Title: Sexualized Violence Prevention and Response Manager

Thompson Rivers University is seeking a highly skilled professional to fill the role of Sexualized Violence Prevention and Response Manager. This position is housed within the Office of the Dean of Students and is responsible for coordinating a comprehensive, survivor-led university response to disclosures of sexual and gender-based violence.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Coordinating a comprehensive, survivor-led university response to disclosures of sexual and gender-based violence, including arranging academic and living accommodations.
  • Drafting safety plans for survivors of sexual violence and providing support and information regarding university resources and complaint resolution procedures.
  • Working closely with relevant stakeholders to initiate and implement campus-wide sexual violence prevention programming.
  • Acting as a centralized data collection hub for gathering information on incidents of sexual violence and gender-based violence specific to the TRU community.
Major Responsibilities:
  • Guided by all relevant University policies and protocols, the Manager will undertake the following duties:
  • Ensure timely and appropriate support to all disclosures of gender-based violence.
  • Liaise with various university offices, administrative, and teaching staff, to coordinate appropriate workplace, residence, and academic accommodations for survivors of violence.
  • Provide support, advocacy, and information to survivors contemplating or engaged in informal or formal University complaints resolution processes or external investigations and criminal processes.
  • Collaborate with community-based women's anti-violence organizations to develop campus safety plans for survivors.
  • Facilitate referrals to community agencies and university resources.
  • Remain current on sexual and gender-based violence prevention research and legislation, and national trends.
  • Initiate and promote educational and training opportunities that advance a feminist/anti-oppressive response to individual and systemic incidents of violence against women/gender-based violence.
  • Establish, maintain, and promote effective relationships with individuals, campus offices, alumni, related organizations, and external agencies.
  • Review and update the Sexual Violence Response Protocol every two years.
Requirements:
  • Advanced degree in a related field.
  • 3 years of relevant experience, preferably at a post-secondary institution.
  • Previous experience providing advocacy and/or counseling to survivors of sexual, domestic, and family violence, and other forms of gender-based violence.
  • A strong intersectional, feminist, anti-oppressive, and anti-racist analysis of sexual, intimate, and family violence.
  • Experience and demonstrated capacity to work effectively with equity-seeking groups on campus.
  • Particular knowledge of First Nations, Métis, and Inuit/Indigenous, race, and disability-related issues and their intersections with other identities.
  • Adult education experience, preferably at a University, with highly developed skills for designing and implementing educational programs for adult learners in an educational setting.
  • Demonstrated understanding of the differential impacts of trauma caused by sexual, intimate, and family violence on diverse community members.
  • Demonstrated analytical skills to interpret relevant policy and legislation and develop recommendations for a wide-range of violence prevention initiatives.
  • Knowledge of local community-based resources.
  • Proven ability to build relationships, work collaboratively with students, faculty, staff, administrators, and community partners, and to balance the multiple interests of diverse stakeholders.
  • Exceptional oral and written communication, and interpersonal skills with a keen ability to engage with various stakeholders and members of the University community, and build rapport with diverse staff, student, and faculty groups.
  • Demonstrated planning and project management skills.
  • Proven ability to prepare and present detailed reports and assessments.
  • Ability to coordinate and facilitate large-scale training and campaign development.
  • Excellent judgment and ability to work independently, as well as in a team.
  • Proficiency in MS Office software applications, including word processing, spreadsheets, database, and presentation software applications, as well as highly developed research capabilities.
  • Ability to work outside of regular business hours.
