Sustainability Strategist: Decarbonization and Climate Change

About the Role

This is a key position within Canadian Tire Corporation's Brand and Customer department, focusing on the development and implementation of climate strategies across the company's family of brands.

The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of decarbonization strategies, carbon accounting, renewable energy, and sustainable technologies.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Support the creation and execution of programs that instill shared value for the organization, focusing on building and transportation decarbonization, renewable energy, and other key areas.
  2. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate sustainability strategies into the core business, including real estate, transportation, finance, legal, store operations, supply chain, merchandising, product stewardship, marketing, and product development.
  3. Capture innovative opportunities for value creation, developing business cases and conducting analysis on potential climate change initiatives.
  4. Provide support to the leadership team as required, including research, consultative initiatives, board reporting, presentation support, and more.
  5. Stay up-to-date on emerging trends, best practices, and opportunities in the field of sustainability, with an emphasis on climate change.
Requirements
  • 2-4 years of work experience in energy, climate change, and/or sustainability, with a focus on the retail industry.
  • Data and analysis skills, with experience in data gathering, analysis, and modeling.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and presentation skills, especially in synthesizing and communicating complex topics.
  • Strong knowledge of decarbonization strategies, carbon accounting, renewable energy, and sustainable technologies.
  • An educational background in engineering, environmental science, accounting, sustainability, or related fields, with a Master's degree being an asset.
What We Offer
