Nurse in Mental Health Inpatient Psychiatry

At North York General Hospital, we are committed to delivering exceptional patient care. We are seeking a talented Registered Nurse to join our dynamic team in the Mental Health Inpatient Psychiatry Unit.
Job Summary
The successful candidate will provide high-quality patient care, working collaboratively with an interdisciplinary team to assess, educate, prevent, maintain, and restore patient health. This role requires excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to build strong relationships with patients, families, and healthcare providers.
Responsibilities
- Function to the full scope of nursing practice, as per the College of Nurses of Ontario.
- Communicate effectively with patients, families, and healthcare team members.
- Think critically, prioritize tasks, and organize work in response to patient needs.
- Demonstrate knowledge of transfers and lifts.
- Commit to ongoing learning, professional development, and continuous quality improvement.
- Have proficient computer skills, including MS Word, Internet searches, data entry, and patient information systems.
- Assume a leadership role, with evidence of self-motivation in continuing education, patient assessment, education, and related clinical specialties.
- Have excellent assessment skills, with clinical knowledge of geriatric care.
- Demonstrate effective organizational, problem-solving, prioritization, time-management, and teaching skills.
- Perform appropriately in emergency situations.
Requirements
- Diploma in Nursing or Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing.
- Registered and in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario.
- Current Basic Cardiac Life Support certification (BCLS).
- Current Medication Certificate.
- Minimum 2 years' experience, preferably.
- Certification in Crisis Intervention by Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI), preferably.
- Certificate in Mental Health Nursing from a recognized community college, preferably.
- Bilingualism in French/English, an asset.
What We Offer
We offer a highly competitive total compensation package, including pay in lieu of benefits, vacation pay, and the opportunity to join the Hospital Pension Plan. This is a full-time regular position, with 8- and 12-hour shifts, days and nights, including weekends, in the Mental Health Inpatient Psychiatry Unit.
