Job Summary

Baycrest Health Sciences is seeking Clinical Externs to join our team in providing exceptional care to our patients. As a Clinical Extern, you will have the opportunity to work under the supervision of our experienced nursing staff and gain valuable experience in a dynamic and supportive environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Participate in patient assessments and activities of daily living
  • Contribute to care planning and evaluation
  • Provide assistance with lifting, turning, transferring, transporting and ambulating as per hospital policy
  • Ensure skin integrity and reduce pressure injuries
  • Assist with comfort measures and patient safety
  • Communicate care through documentation and reporting
  • Engage in additional skills via delegation as approved by unit leadership
  • Provide assigned care under supervision, excluding controlled acts
  • Support patients' independence, dignity, social, emotional and cultural well-being
  • Initiate and maintain relationships with patients, families and other care providers
Qualifications
  • Nursing students enrolled in 2nd, 3rd or 4th year of a CNO-approved baccalaureate program or 2nd year of a diploma nursing program
  • Excellent academic standing
  • Current certificate in Basic Cardiac Life Support
  • Infection prevention and control practices
  • Recent clinical placement experience preferred
  • Ability to work independently and as part of an interdisciplinary team
  • Experience working with clients with cognitive impairment/dementia and high intensity responsive behaviors preferred
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and problem-solving skills
  • Basic computer skills - Meditech, Microsoft Word and Excel preferred
