The Opportunity

As a Principal Data Engineer at Quantexa, you'll be part of our fast-paced Delivery team, driving innovation and implementing cutting-edge technology. Your expertise will help us tackle complex challenges in data processing, making data easier for our clients and their communities.

You'll have the opportunity to work on sophisticated end-to-end big data solutions, collaborating with our business teams and clients to break down requirements into technical tasks. As a key technical decision-maker, you'll balance competing demands with technical complexity, guiding and mentoring junior data engineers to solve complex problems.

Your Key Responsibilities
  • Lead, support, and mentor a team of junior data engineers within an agile framework.
  • Set medium-term strategy for the technical delivery of projects, anticipating challenges, risks, and issues.
  • Operate with high autonomy, seeking guidance and support as required.
  • Write defensive, fault-tolerant, and efficient code for production-level data processing systems.
  • Configure and deploy Quantexa's software using tools like Spark, Hadoop, Scala, Elasticsearch, hosted on private and public virtual clouds.
  • Articulate technical concepts to non-technical audiences, helping them make informed decisions.
  • Collaborate with solution architects and R&D engineers to champion solutions and standards for complex big data challenges.
Requirements

To succeed in this role, you'll need:

  • At least eight years of industry experience in a data engineering role or equivalent, with five years of experience in a lead role.
  • Proficiency in Scala, Java, Python, or a programming language associated with data engineering.
  • Expertise in building and deploying production-level data processing batch systems maintained by application support teams.
  • Experience with modern development tooling (e.g., Git, Gradle, Nexus) and automation and DevOps technologies (e.g., Jenkins, Docker).
  • A strong technical communication ability, with demonstrable experience working in rapidly changing client environments.
  • Familiarity with testing libraries (e.g., ScalaTest) and knowledge of different test types.
  • A valid Secret-level government security clearance, either current or within the past year.
