Masonry Expert Job Description
  • We are seeking a skilled Masonry Specialist to join our team at Antigo Construction.
  • The successful candidate will be responsible for preparing and laying bricks, concrete blocks, and other masonry units.
  • Additional duties include estimating materials, tools, and equipment required for projects, constructing and installing prefabricated masonry units, and preparing tenders and quotations.
  • The ideal candidate will have excellent oral communication skills and be able to work at heights, on scaffolding, or swing stages.
  • They will also be able to instruct apprentices and work independently with minimal supervision.

  • Please note that this is a physically demanding position that requires handling heavy loads, standing for extended periods, and bending, crouching, and kneeling.
  • The work environment will be outdoors, wet/damp, noisy, dusty, and hot, and the candidate must be able to work in these conditions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and lay bricks, concrete blocks, and other masonry units
  • Estimate materials, tools, and equipment required for projects
  • Construct and install prefabricated masonry units
  • Prepare tenders and quotations
  • Work at heights, on scaffolding, or swing stages
  • Instruct apprentices
  • Lay bricks or other masonry units to build residential or commercial chimneys and fireplaces
  • Lay or install firebricks to line industrial chimneys and smokestacks
  • Restore, clean, or paint existing masonry structures
  • Waterproof, damp proof, and restore surfaces
  • Repair, resurface, and replace worn or damaged sections of concrete structures
  • Read and interpret blueprints, maps, drawings, and specifications
  • Operate power vibrators to compact concrete
  • Level top surface concrete according to grade and depth specification
  • Install anchor bolts, steel plates, door sills, and other fixtures
  • Fille hollows and remove spots on freshly poured cement
  • Estimate costs and materials
  • Apply hardening and sealing components to cure surfaces
  • Impart desired finish to concrete surfaces using hand and power tools

Requirements:

  • Secondary (high) school graduation certificate
  • 3 years to less than 5 years of experience, or equivalent experience
  • Physical demands: handling heavy loads, standing for extended periods, bending, crouching, kneeling
  • Work site environment: outdoors, wet/damp, noisy, dusty, hot
