Tomlinson Group of Companies is seeking a skilled Estimator to play a key role in the company's success. The successful candidate will be responsible for preparing cost estimates for a variety of projects, including roads, sewer, and water infrastructure. They will work closely with customers, clients, sub-contractors, and consulting engineers to build strong relationships and promote the company's services and capabilities.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare cost estimates for projects, including roads, sewer, and water infrastructure.
- Obtain tender documents from online bid posting sites.
- Attend job showings and pre-tender site visits.
- Review existing site conditions.
- Perform pre-qualification tasks as required.
- Obtain bid bonds and insurance quotes for tender submissions.
- Review tender specifications, drawings, and Geotech reports.
- Communicate with sub-contractors to obtain pricing.
- Perform quantity calculations and full take-offs for all tender items.
- Utilize estimation software to prepare estimates.
- Fill out pre-tender forms in SharePoint and deliver tender documents.
- Review tender submissions with the appropriate manager.
Liaising with Customers, Sub-contractors, and Consulting Engineers:
- Attend industry-related functions to build relationships and networks.
- Communicate with engineers through budget pricing to build a relationship and establish a positive culture.
- Monitor job posting sites, newspapers, and engineering firms for tendering opportunities.
Collaboration with Construction, Project Controls, and Management Teams:
- Issue job transmittals to construction teams.
- Run estimation hand-over meetings with field teams to convey estimation productions, risks, and opportunities.
- Issue sub-contracts and internal material purchase orders.
- Meet with job superintendents to provide and communicate relevant job information.
Providing Support for Ongoing Contracts:
- Assist project teams in pricing and negotiating additional work for ongoing contracts.
- Provide scope of work clarification to construction teams.
- Attend owner project meetings as required.
- Develop cost plans for large change orders in SAP.
Continuous Personal Development:
- Attend training sessions.
- Identify training opportunities and communicate with your manager.
- Work with senior staff to develop skills.
- Work with other estimators to share and enhance individual knowledge and skills.
Requirements:
- Certified Engineering Technologist designation is an asset.
- Experience in estimation of roads, sewer, and water infrastructure is an asset.
- 2+ years of a combination of field and estimating experience.
- Ability to provide constructive feedback to peers.
- High proficiency in Microsoft Office.
- Hard Dollar Estimation software and SAP knowledge are assets.
