The RoleThe Systems Engineer is a critical member of OSI's engineering team, responsible for developing marine navigation and bridge systems for government and naval markets. This role plays a key part in designing and defining system requirements, executing various system engineering functions throughout the project lifecycle, and taking on technical leadership.
Key Responsibilities- Assist senior engineers in developing design concepts and generating technical proposal material in response to RFQs.
- Develop system designs, perform functional analysis, define systems architecture, and document the design.
- Perform requirement analysis, traceability, and maintenance of requirements.
- Coordinate design of subsystems and integration of total systems.
- Identify, analyze, and resolve program support deficiencies.
- Develop and recommend corrective actions.
- Design to government standards, including Military and IMO standards.
- Ensure availability, reliability, and logistics support considerations are part of the system design process.
- Review obsolescence issues and recommend design changes.
- Attend and participate in customer design reviews and acceptance events.
- Participate in system integration tests, trials, and acceptance tests at customer facilities.
- Write acceptance test procedures.
- Manage scope of work, schedules, estimates effort and costs, and identifies technical risks.
- Degree in Engineering or Physics, or equivalent experience.
- 4 years' engineering experience, with a minimum of 3 years in Systems Engineering.
- Experience in marine electronics and integrated bridge systems is a significant asset.
- Proven track record in delivering engineering projects on time.
- Strong knowledge of marine navigation and tactical sensors or systems.
- Excellent knowledge of Systems Engineering principles, standards, and best practices.
- Working experience in network design and architecture.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Familiarity with requirements and verification management tools.
- Knowledge of safety engineering and human factors engineering is an asset.
