About the Role

This exciting opportunity is available to join a reputable Contractor, Murphy Water. As an Electrical Design Engineer, you will be part of the Projects Department / Electrical Design Department, contributing to the development and success of the company within the industry.

The successful candidate will work under the direct supervision of a Chartered Electrical Engineer, collaborating with process and automation engineers to support the delivery of various water treatment projects across the Republic of Ireland, Northern Ireland, and the UK.

Responsibilities will include electrical design and planning of water treatment plants, involving tasks such as:

  1. Designing circuitry for electrical mains power and sub-power circuits.
  2. Developing and testing Medium Voltage (MV) Distribution Boards (MCCs).
  3. Selecting starters with Variable Speed Drives (VSDs) & Direct Online (DOLs) to suit diverse process applications.
  4. Crafting instrumentation circuitry designs and implementations.
  5. Reviewing Process Flow Diagrams alongside site layout drawings.
  6. Create Building services designs and implementations using Amtech electrical & Dialux design software packages.
  7. Coordinating with equipment vendors and subcontractor partners on multiple water treatment projects.

To excel in this position, candidates should possess excellent interpersonal, organisational, and communication skills, being adaptable, computer literate, and a team player with strong attention to detail and ability to work independently.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

In this role, you will be required to undertake the following duties:

  1. Prepare detailed electrical specifications/scopes of work for water treatment plant equipment, including mains power connections, power generators, MCCs, transformers, motor starters, VSDs & DOLs, electric actuators, instrumentation, and electrical network architecture.
  2. Perform cable sizing calculations, short-circuit analyses, lighting calculations, and power balance studies/plant load calculations using Amtech software.
  3. Review electrical power/instrumentation schematic arrangements, prepare sketches, and perform engineering calculations.
  4. Develop specifications for instrument schematics, loop layouts, and drawings.
  5. Select and specify process instrumentation and safety instrumented systems.
  6. Interface with our Controls and Automation Team to develop Functional Design Specifications.
  7. Maintain awareness and knowledge of current rules and regulations governing electrical design/installation of electrical systems.
Required Skills and Qualifications
  • A degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent qualification.
  • 0-7 years of experience working post-university, preferably in power transmission and low-voltage distribution systems, control & automation systems, MCCs, VSD/DOLs, PLC networks, industrial instrumentation, lighting calculations, building services systems, and AutoCAD.
