Job Description

The Advanced Manufacturing Designer will be responsible for designing and developing 3D-printed molds for thermoform compression molding using advanced large-format 3D printing technologies to produce high-quality molds. This role involves utilizing CAD software to create complex geometries and optimizing additive manufacturing parameters for mold quality and production time.

Responsibilities

  • Create and refine CAD models for molds to ensure compatibility with large-format 3D printing processes and thermoform compression molding requirements.
  • Develop and implement additive manufacturing parameters to enhance mold quality, reduce production time, and minimize material waste.
  • Research and select appropriate materials for mold production considering factors such as durability, thermal stability, and cost-effectiveness.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including product designers, production engineers, and quality assurance to integrate molds seamlessly into the manufacturing process.
  • Conduct trials to assess mold performance, analyze results, and implement necessary design or process adjustments.
  • Oversee maintenance of 3D printing equipment and address technical issues during mold production.
  • Maintain detailed records of design iterations, DFMEA, root cause analysis, process parameters, and testing outcomes to support continuous improvement and knowledge sharing.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Materials Science, or a related field.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in additive manufacturing with a focus on tooling design and large-format 3D printing.
  • Expertise in CAD software for designing complex geometries.
  • Familiarity with additive manufacturing technologies particularly material extrusion methods.
  • Strong understanding of material properties and their implications on mold performance.
  • Ability to manage multiple assignments while keeping sight of overarching objectives.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with a keen eye for detail and creativity.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret data and make data-driven decisions.
