About the Role

This position involves providing comprehensive care to patients assigned to the Mental Health and Substance Use (MHSU) team. As a Mental Health Nurse Specialist, you will be part of an innovative new model that integrates mental health and substance use services. You will rotate through community and acute sites, focusing on mental health, substance use, and addiction medicine services.

You will have the opportunity to participate in a residency program, combining coursework, clinical experiences, and quality improvement initiatives. Your role will involve working collaboratively with healthcare professionals across the system.

Key Responsibilities
  • Comprehensive assessment and diagnosis of patients, including developing treatment plans and prescribing medications as required.
  • Providing professional guidance to other healthcare professionals and participating in interdisciplinary teams.
  • Collaborating with clients and other healthcare professionals to identify trends and patterns affecting client populations.
  • Developing and implementing population-based strategies to improve health outcomes and participating in policy-making and quality improvement activities.
Qualifications and Requirements

To be successful in this role, you must have:

  • Current registration as a Nurse Practitioner with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).
  • Four years of recent, relevant clinical nursing experience.
  • Successful completion of the Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE).
