About the Role:

We are seeking a skilled Crop Cultivator to join our team at Sparkes Corn Barn. As a key member of our farm team, you will be responsible for the cultivation and harvesting of a variety of crops, including field berries, raspberries, strawberries, and sweet corn.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Apply the technique of hoeing between rows to maintain crop health and prevent weeds from competing with the crops for water and nutrients.
  • Divide fresh harvested produce into marketable lots and non-marketable lots to ensure the highest quality produce is sold to customers.
  • Grade vegetables and fruits into different grades according to size, shape, colour, and volume to fetch the highest price in the market.
  • Hand harvest vegetables to ensure the highest quality produce is collected.
  • Plant, cultivate, and irrigate crops to ensure optimal growth and yield.
  • Weed crops to prevent competition from weeds and maintain crop health.
  • Harvest crops at the optimal time to ensure the highest quality produce is collected.

Requirements:

  • Experience in crop cultivation and harvesting is an asset.
  • Ability to work efficiently in a team environment.
  • Flexibility to work varying hours, including weekends and holidays.
  • Ability to make sound judgments and decisions in a fast-paced environment.
  • Organized and able to prioritize tasks effectively.

Working Conditions:

  • Work site environment: Fruit and vegetable combination farming.
  • Equipment and machinery experience: Tractor, planting equipment.
  • Personal suitability: Efficient interpersonal skills, flexibility, judgement, organized, team player.
