Role Summary

Spark Power is seeking an experienced Electrical Protection Specialist to join our team in Alberta. The successful candidate will be responsible for performing programming, testing, and verification of protection and control devices in the field.

Key Responsibilities

  • Inspect, test, operate, and troubleshoot AC and DC control and protection wiring schematics.
  • Perform field testing, verification, and programming of various IEDs from manufacturers such as SEL, GE Multilin, GEC Alstom, Siemens, Square D, and ABB.
  • Maintain or commission power distribution equipment, including power transformers, circuit breakers, HV switches, and instrument transformers.
  • Be familiar with industry-specific codes and standards (AESO, AUEC, IEEE, and NETA).
  • Ability and willingness to travel 70-80% of the time for out-of-town commissioning or maintenance projects.
  • Report, record, compute, and process electrical test information in accordance with accepted standard practices.
  • Coordinate the day-to-day functions on a job-by-job basis, including compliance with all health and safety standards and regulations, availability of necessary resources, resolving conflicts, and timely and accurate submission of paperwork.

Requirements

  • 2-5 years of experience in P&C.
  • 2-year Electrical Engineering Technology diploma or Bachelor of Electrical Engineering Degree.
  • Registered or eligible to register with ASET or APEGA.
  • Valid Class 5 Driver's License.
  • Excellent communication and critical thinking skills.
  • Ability to provide technical leadership.
