Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Registered Nurse to join our Acute Care of the Elderly (ACE) unit at Southlake Regional Health Centre. As a key member of our healthcare team, you will provide exceptional patient care to individuals over the age of 70, focusing on restoring and maintaining function with a plan to return to the community.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide patient and family focused care within the RN scope of practice, based on the three-factor framework of the College of Nurses of Ontario
  • Function in accordance with established hospital policies and procedures, including emergency codes
  • Ensure that practice is consistent with entry to practice competencies, standards of practice, guidelines and legislation
  • Communicate effectively with patients, families and all members of the healthcare team
  • Practice collaboratively with members of the healthcare team to provide elements of care for patients/clients with complex health issues
  • Provide consultation and/or clinical support to peers as needed
  • Contribute to the assessment and documentation of each patient's health status on an ongoing basis
  • Assist in the development and implementation of the Plan of Care and evaluates its ongoing effectiveness
  • Assist in the orientation/preceptorship of new staff members and students to the clinical units
  • Act as a role model and champion to identify and integrate safe, best practices into daily activities to foster the delivery of safe and exemplary care
  • Take a leadership role in the coordination of patient care in assigned area
  • Assume charge nurse role when assigned
  • Assist in the orientation/preceptorship of new staff members and students
  • Effectively utilize human and material resources
  • Participate in the development, implementation and evaluation of clinical pathways
  • Provide consultation and/or clinical support to peers as needed
Requirements
  • Registered and in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO) as a Registered Nurse
  • Current BCLS certificate required
  • BScN preferred
  • Current ACLS certificate preferred
  • Recent experience working in a medical or complex medical rehab nursing unit within the last two years
  • Recent experience working with CVA patients
  • Current competence in using glucose monitoring devices
  • Competence in starting and maintaining IVs
