This is a unique opportunity to join the Nexus Systems Group Inc. as a Risk Control Specialist. In this role, you will be responsible for executing assigned risk control activities independently as a team member.
You will work with other risk control teams as required and carry out specific projects. Your primary focus will be on assessing risks across the First Line of Defense, including financial risks, regulatory obligations, policies, and procedures, underwriting, systems, and fraud management.
You will determine the efficiency, effectiveness, integrity, and reliability of internal controls in relation to defined control requirements, employing data analytics to support conclusions where applicable. Ensuring risk control results are gathered and determining the root cause of the problem is also a key responsibility.
Additionally, you will prepare risk control results and findings for presentation to management and follow-up on corrective action/progress against any reported issues. You will share relevant information that impacts other risk control function areas and execute and manage assigned activities independently in accordance with the Department Standards ensuring risk control testing is sufficient and appropriate to support the risk control opinion.
You will document all risk control work performed to ensure appropriate working papers are maintained and conform to department standards. Maintaining standards and the Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA) Code of Ethics is essential in completion of all assignments.
Key Responsibilities:
- Identify and assess materiality of risk control weaknesses ensuring facts are gathered and determine the root cause of the problem impact, prepare/review risk control findings as applicable.
- Draft risk control findings and correspondence to management ensuring writing is clear, concise, and accurate.
- Presentation and discussion of findings and progress with management as required.
- Risk control issue tracking and testing.
- Developing and maintaining good relationships with key risk control stakeholders.
We are looking for a candidate with 10+ years of experience in Retail Banking, Risk Management, Regulatory body, or related experience. Experience with at least one of the following: lending (automotive in particular); deposit products; key regulations/regulatory, including SOX is also a requirement.
Familiarity with data analytics or visualization tools such as Alteryx, PowerBI, Python with larger data sets is preferred. Additionally, accounting designations/technical/professional qualifications, university/post-secondary degree in business, finance, economics, accountancy or any other relevant experience would be an asset.
