Livestock Labourer Job Description

Le taj Farms is seeking a skilled Livestock Labourer to join our team. As a key member of our farm team, you will be responsible for the daily care and management of our livestock, including goats and sheep.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Clear fields of wood and stones to ensure a safe and healthy environment for our animals.
  • Develop and guide the behaviour of farm animals to promote their well-being and productivity.
  • Diagnose and address any health issues that may arise, ensuring the animals receive prompt and effective treatment.
  • Disinfect pens, barns, and poultry houses to maintain a clean and hygienic environment.
  • Handle animals with care and attention, ensuring their safety and well-being at all times.
  • Mark livestock as proof of ownership, ensuring accurate and up-to-date records.
  • Milk goats and perform other tasks related to their care and management.
  • Mix fertilizer and perform other tasks related to farm maintenance.
  • Perform livestock feeding and ensure the animals receive a balanced and nutritious diet.
  • Shear sheep and perform other tasks related to their care and management.
  • Track and report on current feed inventory, ensuring we always have a sufficient supply.
  • Feed and tend to animals, ensuring their needs are met at all times.
  • Formulate feeding programs to promote the health and productivity of our livestock.
  • Maintain accurate records of livestock performance, ensuring we can track their progress and make informed decisions.
  • Select livestock for sale, ensuring we are always selling high-quality animals.
  • Perform general farm duties, including maintenance and repairs.
Requirements:
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Physically demanding role, requiring the ability to lift, bend, and stand for long periods.
  • Repetitive tasks, including feeding and tending to animals.
  • Combination of sitting, standing, and walking, with occasional bending and crouching.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and adapt to changing circumstances.
