Pharmacy Automation Specialist

The Pharmacy System Administrator will provide primary technical support for pharmacy automation and informatics systems at all hospital sites, including Swisslog robotics, Omnicell technologies, PakEdge and Abacus compounding equipment. This role will also support current and future technology implementation projects for Hamilton Health Sciences Pharmacy.
Key Responsibilities- Investigate and resolve technical failures in partnership with internal IT and vendor resources.
- Partner with IT/Clinical Informatics to ensure system communication across multiple interfaces.
- Maintain and update multiple system settings to ensure all systems maintain alignment with the Hospital Information System (i.e. EPIC).
- Participate in testing procedures for system upgrades and enhancements.
- Communicate system changes to users and administrators.
- Complete all required reconciliation tasks to ensure compliance with Accreditation Canada, Ontario College of Pharmacists and other applicable legislation, regulations and standards.
- Generate reports for system optimization, utilization and diversion surveillance, quality assurance and auditing purposes.
- Provide front line educational support to pharmacy staff and other staff as required.
- Participate in various committees internal and external to Pharmacy related to Pharmacy systems.
- Facilitate student education as required related to systems.
- Minimum 5 years related hospital pharmacy experience in acute care hospital setting, with an associated minimum 2 years of experience in informatics and/or automation primary support.
- Demonstrated strong ability to use computers, word processing, spreadsheet and email systems and working knowledge of EPIC.
- Ability to support Swisslog and/or Omnicell technologies preferred.
- Strong analytical and problem solving skills, with experience in troubleshooting technology-related issues.
- Ability to provide support to the pharmacy leadership team and to provide leadership to pharmacy technicians.
- Ability to follow specific instructions with a high degree of accuracy, with strict adherence to applicable legislative, Ontario College of Pharmacists and other professional standards and guidelines.
- Strong understanding of pharmacy and medication systems legislation, standards and guidelines, and internal hospital systems.
- Ability to perform the physical requirement of the position, including moderate to heavy lifting, pushing, and bending (equipment hardware maintenance).
- Demonstrated excellent interpersonal, teamwork, collaboration, organizational, and communication (written and verbal) skills.
- Demonstrated initiative. Self-directed in seeking out pharmacy technology issues and finding constructive resolution options.
- Demonstrated commitment to professional and personal development.
- Demonstrated ability to co-ordinate with other departments to complete projects and audits.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to prioritize workload, and to manage stressful conditions.
- Completion of a recognized college level Pharmacy Technician Program.
- Registration with the Ontario College of Pharmacists, in good standing and no restrictions in licensure.
