Job Title: Glass Technician

We are seeking a skilled Glass Technician to join our team at Toronto Glass. As a Glass Technician, you will be responsible for installing, repairing, and maintaining glass products in various settings.

  • 30 hours per week
Education:
  • No degree, certificate or diploma
Experience:
  • 2 years to less than 3 years
Asset Languages:
  • Spanish; Castilian
  • Hebrew
Tasks:
  • Determine type of glass, frames and material required
  • Read blueprints, drawings and specifications to determine work requirements
  • Measure, mark and cut glass
  • Position and secure panes in frame
  • Prepare tenders and quotations
  • Assemble and install prefabricated glass, mirrors or glass products
  • Install door, window and other hardware
  • Instruct apprentices
  • Repair glass doors and other glass structures
  • Assemble, erect and dismantle scaffolding, rigging and hoisting equipment
  • Supervise other workers
  • Transport cases of glass
  • Estimate costs and materials
  • Work at heights, on scaffolding or swing stages
  • Work from man-lift mobile equipment, cranes and other lifting equipmentFrame Fabrication and Installation:
    • Curtain wall (stock length material)
    • Curtain wall (prefabricated material)
    • Spandrel panel installations
    • Aluminum framing members
    • Entranceways
    Glass Cutting Equipment and Techniques:
    • Cutting wheels
    • Self-lubricating cutters
    • Circular cutters
    • Automatic finger pull machine
    • Cut glass plate manually (straight cuts)
    • Cut glass plate free-hand (curved cuts)
    • Bend glass
    • Edge glass plates
    • Laminate glass
    • Paint glass
    • Tint glass
    Installation Specialization:
    • Skylights and slope glazed installations
    • Sports installations (sports courts and boards)
    • Stained glass installations
    • Aluminum storefronts, barrel vaults, solariums, commercial window systems
    • Electrically altered glass
    • Glass baffles, smoke and sprinkler baffles
    • Heat resistant ceramics
    • Shower doors and tub enclosures
    • Suspended glazing system
    • Vehicle windows, windshields and sunroofs
    • Display cases
    • Walls and other interior areas (i.e. partitions)
    Work Conditions and Physical Capabilities:
    • Physically demanding
    • Handling heavy loads
    • Standing for extended periods
    • Bending, crouching, kneeling
