About the Role

CPKC is seeking a highly skilled GIS Software Developer to join our team in Calgary, Alberta or Kansas City, MO. As a key member of our Information Services department, you will play a pivotal role in identifying, comprehending, implementing, and meticulously documenting business processes related to GIS ETL.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design, implement, and oversee real-time and near real-time Extract, Transform, Load (ETL) workflows that manage the flow of GIS data and its integration with various systems.
  • Support FME Server and Desktop processes, ensuring seamless data flow and efficient operations.
  • Create and maintain scripts and tools developed for providing GIS analysis and output for business, driving data-driven decision-making.
  • Perform Quality Assurance/Quality Control (QA/QC) in support of day-to-day operational data change requests (Data Change Management), ensuring data accuracy and integrity.
  • Collaborate with CPKC Change Management and internal business partners to coordinate the delivery of ETL requests, fostering effective communication and project management.
  • Troubleshoot incidents or defects that arise in supported applications, ensuring timely resolution and stakeholder satisfaction.
  • Develop detailed documentation and improve efficiencies, contributing to the continuous improvement of our data management processes.
Requirements
  • Geographic Information Systems, Computer Science, Engineering, Geomatics, or related discipline.
  • 4-6 years of knowledge of principles, concepts, practices, techniques, and tools in the areas of GIS and ETL, with expertise in Safe Software's FME (Feature Manipulation Engine).
  • 4-6 years of practical experience and knowledge of principles, concepts, practices, techniques, and tools in the areas of GIS, with proficiency in ESRI as core software (an asset).
  • 4-6 years of experience with scripting languages that facilitate ETL, such as Python (an asset).
