POSITION SUMMARY:

The Reef Net Revitalization Project Officer will assist in planning, implementing, and overseeing the project's success in revitalizing the Reef Net fishery.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develop and implement a project charter and work plan for each fiscal year;
  • Engage with members, First Nations, and stakeholders through internal and external outreach and education;
  • Participate in workshops and training sessions, ensuring a log is kept of all outreach engagements;
  • Assist with field work activities, including equipment maintenance and storage, and training in traditional fishing techniques;
  • Learn from Indigenous Elders and community members to develop a working knowledge of the Tsawout culture;
  • Participate in fisheries-related field trips and outdoor activities to gain practical experience and knowledge.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Possession of a Secondary School certification or higher;
  • Previous experience in the Reef Net fishery is an asset;
  • Proficient in keyboarding, word processing, and standard computer applications;
  • A Vulnerable Sector Criminal Record Check is required for employment.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Strong computer skills and ability to work with MS Office;
  • Ability to perform fieldwork in all weather conditions and maintain confidential information;
  • Strong work ethic and commitment to taking initiative and maintaining a safe work environment.
