Job Description

At McCarthy Tétrault, we are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Payroll and Benefits Coordinator to join our team. As a key member of our payroll department, you will be responsible for the accurate and timely administration of firm-wide national payroll and benefits transactions.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Process payroll transactions, including overtime sheets, payroll transaction forms, special deductions, and reimbursements, in accordance with established policies and procedures.
  • Ensure accurate and timely calculations of payment of salaries, including statutory holidays, bonus payments, and salary increases.
  • Coordinate with the payroll and benefits application vendors, including UKG, Paychex, and Telus, to ensure seamless processing of payroll and benefits transactions.
  • Investigate and resolve transactional payroll issues with local HR representatives.
  • Provide back-up support to the Paymaster, including processing and maintaining payroll documentation, and ensuring timely reconciliation with pay.
  • Administer firm benefit programs, including wellness, stipend, technology, and tuition reimbursement programs.
  • Coordinate with vendors and ensure timely and accurate remittances to non-government institutions, including pension plans, group RRSPs, and other benefit providers.
Requirements:
  • College diploma in an accounting-related field.
  • Minimum of 3-4 years of payroll experience in a mid-to-large size firm, with the ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Professional certification (PCP) from the National Payroll Institute preferred.
  • Experience in processing payroll and related accounting in a multi-provincial environment and/or multinational environment.
  • Strong computer knowledge, including Microsoft Word and advanced Excel, with the ability to keep up-to-date with changes in technology.
  • Able to prioritize tasks, manage workload fluctuations, and meet critical deadlines with strict attention to detail.
  • Reliable and able to carry out job responsibilities with minimal supervision, with a confident and professional demeanor.
  • Bilingualism (French and English), written and spoken.
