Job Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Counsel to join our team in the Legal Department at The Toronto-Dominion Bank (Canada). As a Counsel, you will be responsible for providing strategic, practical, and timely legal advice to business teams, risk and control partners, and other internal stakeholders in connection with all matters relating to TD Wealth Private Banking.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide legal advice on customer matters referred to the Legal Department (escalations, complaints, requests for advice, etc.)
  • Draft and/or review customer agreements, disclosures, credit documentation, and marketing materials related to TD Wealth Private Banking
  • Advise on the management of legal and reputational risk with respect to new business initiatives or changes to existing products and services
  • Build and maintain strong, collaborative working relationships within the Legal Department, with business teams, and with risk and control functions across various parts of the Bank
Requirements
  • Licensed as a lawyer in Ontario
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience at a commercial law firm or in-house legal department that includes experience advising commercial clients on contractual, lending, or financial services matters
  • Familiarity with financial services, such as through experience advising financial services firms, bankers, or wealth management professionals
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to brief legal and business executives on complex issues in a clear, concise, and practical way
