We are seeking a skilled and experienced lawyer to join our team in the Legal Services Division of the Department of Justice. As a casual government lawyer, you will have the opportunity to work on a variety of legal matters, including administrative law, employment law, contracts, regulations, child protection, and litigation.
Key Responsibilities:
- Advise government leaders on legal matters, including negotiation, strategy, and public policy;
- Draft and interpret statutes and regulations;
- Draft and interpret contracts;
- Assist with submissions to Cabinet;
- Present information about government and law to the public;
- Serve on project teams with senior and intermediate staff of client departments.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Be a practicing member of the Nova Scotia Barristers Society (or eligible for practicing membership), in good standing;
Assets:
- Experience advising government departments, Crown corporations, agencies, boards, and commissions;
- Experience with civil litigation;
- Experience with commercial transactions.
Working Conditions:
This is a casual opportunity, and you will be required to work on a short-term assignment basis. You will be expected to work independently and as part of a team, and to have excellent research, analytical, and organizational skills.
