Maintenance Operations Manager

The Opportunity:
The Maintenance Operations Manager will lead a team of maintenance supervisors and tradespeople to maximize facility uptime and daily production. This is a hands-on supervisory position that requires strong leadership skills and the ability to motivate and develop team members.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage and motivate maintenance supervisors and tradespeople
- Supervise repairs carried out by maintenance staff and/or contractors
- Audit and review incoming work notifications and prioritize work as needed
- Assist with the development and implementation of capital projects
- Ensure effective use of the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS)
- Review and manage maintenance expenditures and oversee cost, scope, and timing of capital projects
- Ensure all scheduled work orders are completed on time
- Review and audit completed work orders for correctness and completeness
- Perform periodic inspections of recently maintained equipment to observe quality of maintenance and operating condition
- Liaise with Engineering and Operations on equipment maintenance and availability
- Provide guidance to the Planner/Scheduler on approving, prioritizing, and estimating work, and technical assistance on developing job plans
- Participate in production meetings, KPI review meetings, and pre- and post-maintenance schedule review meetings
- Assist with identifying root causes of equipment failures and developing new maintenance tasks to eliminate them
- Support development of KPIs to manage Equipment Reliability Process
- Develop and implement proactive maintenance strategy
- Ensure compliance with BRC and CFIA requirements for food safety and address corrective action requests in a timely manner
- Ensure compliance with all applicable provincial and federal labor regulations and adhere to collective bargaining agreements
- Demonstrate active involvement in a progressive health and safety program, food safety program, and environmental program
Requirements:
- 3-5 years of supervisory experience in a manufacturing, unionized environment
- Familiarity with world-class maintenance and best practices
- Familiarity with Six Sigma, RCM, and autonomous maintenance principles
- College graduate from an electro-mechanical program or licensed tradesperson with related experience
- Knowledge of preventive and predictive maintenance tactics
- Ability to work flexible hours when required
- Comfortable using a CMMS, SAP-PM preferably
- Ability to troubleshoot and demonstrate organizational skills
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and leadership skills
- Experience in a food processing environment is an asset
- Knowledge of ammonia-based plant refrigeration systems and their operation is an asset
- Able to manage maintenance and maintenance resources effectively through KPIs and benchmarking
- Proven record of identifying reliability issues and participating in improvement strategies
