Job Description
The Junior Underwriter plays a crucial role in supporting the underwriting team by reviewing all documentation to ensure adherence to company and insurer policies and guidelines. This involves applying due diligence when reviewing required documentation to guarantee accuracy and protect the Company from risk. The Junior Underwriter must escalate any inaccuracies, issues, or incomplete items that may present risk to the Mortgage Underwriter and management whenever necessary.

This position provides an excellent opportunity for professional growth and development into a mortgage underwriter.

In most cases, this position operates remotely, with occasional in-office attendance required once or twice a month except during the initial training period.

Main Responsibilities
  • Establish and maintain positive relationships with external partners, including mortgage brokers, insurers, appraisers, title insurance companies, solicitors, etc.
  • Collect all required documents to satisfy mortgage loan conditions
  • Maintain high standards of compliance with AML/Compliance, Quality Assurance, and similar obligations
  • Stay updated on evolving policies and procedures
  • Perform other duties and assist with special projects as required

Requirements
To succeed in this role, you should have:
  • At least 2 years of previous residential mortgage application process experience (fulfillment, verification of varying documents, assessing client financial information, etc.)
  • Detailed working knowledge of principles of credit analysis and risk management
  • Working knowledge of PC software in a Windows environment
  • Able to make and document decisions considering all implications and proactive risk management
  • Solid negotiation and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work remotely while maintaining strong performance
  • Able to make quick decisions without compromising quality
  • An undergraduate university degree is an asset
  • Ability to speak French is an asset
