Forest School Educator

Saplings Outdoor Program is seeking a dedicated and passionate Forest School Educator to join our team. As a Forest School Educator, you will be responsible for implementing a dynamic forest program, ensuring the safety of children, and preparing learning areas and materials.
Responsibilities- Program Implementation: Develop and implement a comprehensive forest program that aligns with our educational philosophy.
- Safety and Risk Management: Ensure the safety of children during forest play, hiking, and other outdoor activities, and implement risk management strategies to minimize potential hazards.
- Program Preparation: Prepare learning areas and materials, and maintain a safe and organized environment.
- Equipment Management: Assume overall responsibility for program tools and equipment, including safety, use, and maintenance.
- Seasonal Activities: Plan, prepare, and co-create seasonal activities and projects that utilize natural materials and promote learning.
- Mentorship: Implement mentorship strategies that are individually focused and age-appropriate, with an emphasis on compassion and respect.
- Communication: Communicate effectively with parents, staff, and other stakeholders, and attend monthly staff meetings and parent meetings as needed.
- Physical Demands: Be physically capable of performing teaching duties in various weather conditions, including walking distances and over uneven terrain.
- First Aid Certificate: Current First Aid Certificate is required.
- Criminal Record Check: Current Criminal Record Check is required.
- Work Experience: Work experience with school-aged children, preferably in outdoor education, is required.
- Interpersonal Skills: Strong interpersonal skills are essential for interacting with children and parents.
Saplings Outdoor Program is a nature-based program located in West Vancouver that provides children with an opportunity to connect with the environment in a safe and enjoyable way. Our program is designed to promote learning, exploration, and appreciation for nature.
