Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Senior Mental Health Nurse Specialist to join our team at PHSA. As a key member of our interdisciplinary team, you will play a vital role in providing high-quality care to individuals with complex mental health and substance use challenges.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide direct trauma-informed healthcare services to clients presenting with a wide range of illnesses, including communicable diseases, substance dependency, mental health issues, and general health concerns.
  • Perform physical, substance use, and psychiatric assessments, collect specimens, refer clients to physicians for further examination, administer prescribed treatments and medication according to protocols, and make appropriate adjustments.
  • Triage health service requests from clients and develop treatment plans or referrals as needed.
Qualifications
  • Current practicing registration as a Registered Nurse or Registered Psychiatric Nurse with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).
  • Two years' recent experience providing trauma-informed acute or community health nursing care/services to patients with complex mental health and substance use challenges.
  • Successful completion of Occupational First Aid II (OFA II) or OFA III techniques for positions at Ford Mountain Correctional Centre.
Skills and Knowledge
  • Working knowledge of community health nursing theory, including mental health and addictions, communicable diseases, primary care, and patient-centered practice.
  • Knowledge of the BC Mental Health Act, other facilities, and community resources.
  • Ability to facilitate, mediate, and resolve conflicts, with a demonstrated capacity to adjust to new or unexpected events.
  • Awareness of and commitment to learning about and understanding the Truth and Reconciliation Commission's 94 Calls to Action, In Plain Sight Report, BC's Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act, and other related reports.
