Job Summary:We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Fire Prevention Officer to join our team. As a Fire Prevention Officer, you will be responsible for safely supervising high-risk emergency training evolutions, evaluating emergency operations, and critiquing to determine department training requirements.
Key Responsibilities:- Supervise high-risk emergency training evolutions
- Evaluate emergency operations and critique to determine department training requirements
- Approve, develop, conduct, and evaluate training plans and curriculum for the Department
- Maintain accurate training records and document mandated training according to departmental and legislative standards
- Administer and monitor secondary and college level cooperative education programs and conduct performance evaluations of Coop Students
- Participate in the development and administration of departmental testing procedures
- Ensure compliance with legislative standards, departmental policies, and best practices
- Counsel employees on available training and educational opportunities
- Prepare training budget, control and monitor expenditures
- May be assigned to assist at an emergency scene as sector or safety officer
- Under the direction of the Chief, attend Emergency Management Ontario Training sessions and deliver appropriate training to Emergency Management Personnel
- Attend additional training as directed by the Fire Chief
- NFPA 1001 – Fire Fighter I & II Certified
- NFPA 1021 – Fire Officer Level II Certified
- NFPA 1041 – Fire Instructor Level II Certified
- Ability to instruct, develop, and deliver training in all areas of Fire & Emergency Services operations
- Ability to prepare and administer training budget
- Experience in classroom instruction and in the usage of audio-visual aids
- Instructional experience in emergency medical response
- Knowledge of NFPA 1500, NFPA 1403, Occupational Health and Safety Act, and Section 21 committee guidelines
- Experience in incident safety officer roles
- Must possess and maintain a valid, Class "D" Ontario Driver's License with "Z" endorsement
- NFPA 1521 – Incident Safety Officer Certified
- Instructional experience in various technical rescue disciplines, including ice/water rescue, rope rescue, trench rescue, confined space rescue and structural collapse
- Experience and proficiency in e-learning, virtual reality simulation and other multi-media training platforms
- Administrative and computer skills
