Product Safety Engineer Role Summary

At the Electrical Safety Authority (ESA), we are committed to enhancing electrical safety for the public. As a Product Safety Engineer, you will play a crucial role in upholding the integrity of products and fostering consumer trust across Ontario. Your responsibilities will include identifying potential hazards and risks, implementing preventive measures, and ensuring that electrical products meet the highest safety standards.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide operational consultation services to General Managers, Technical Advisors, Electrical Inspectors, and Senior Inspectors.
  • Assist and advise ESA technical, regulatory, and Electrical inspection personnel on the interpretation and application of the product safety regulation and electrical product standards.
  • Respond to external and internal enquiries, including liaison with parties who submit reports of electrical product incidents or accidents.
  • Conduct engineering and technical analysis to resolve field problems or reports of suspected unsafe electrical products.
  • Work with Code and Technical Department staff to propose code changes and represent ESA on various standards development subcommittees and Technical committees.

Requirements:
  • Knowledge of electrical engineering theory, including design, layout, electrical engineering requirements, and specifications.
  • Experience with the design of electrical installations, including the selection and application of electrical equipment for suitability.
  • Experience with electrical product approvals work, including knowledge of regulations and standards applicable to electrical products and equipment.
  • Strong knowledge of English language, written and verbal, to effectively communicate with internal and external clients.
