Job Title: Lockout Tagout Specialist

ANDRITZ Hydro Canada is a leading technology group with a rich history of innovation and sustainability. We are seeking a highly skilled Lockout Tagout Specialist to join our team and contribute to the development of safe and efficient work practices.

Job Summary:

The Lockout Tagout Specialist will be responsible for ensuring the safe operation of our hydroelectric turbines and other equipment by implementing and managing the Lockout Tagout (LOTO) program. This includes designing and implementing Permit To Work Practices, reviewing and validating LOTO and PTW documentation, and providing training to employees on energy-based safety procedures.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Implement and manage the LOTO program for the project
  • Design and implement Permit To Work Practices as needed
  • Review and validate LOTO and PTW documentation and system packages
  • Support the start-up of various sub-systems with commissioning representatives
  • Support the commissioning of turbines, generators, automation, and protection systems, intake gates, and other auxiliary systems
  • Provide assistance in identifying energy-related risks and defining control measures
  • Perform LOTO focus audits on program implementation
  • Provide assistance in daily JHA tailboard and site safety meetings related to energy-based safety
  • Coordinate and communicate all changes to the established LOTO
  • Communicate and support investigations into LOTO-related events
  • Provide LOTO and energy-based safety training to employees as needed
  • Propose immediate correction of LOTO deficiencies and check if corrections are effective
  • Coordinate with installation and commissioning teams as required
  • Support the HSE program implementation as required
  • Collaborate with HSE officers as required
Requirements:
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in LOTO/PTW/HSE management on a construction site or heavy industries
  • Bachelor's degree or college diploma in electrical or mechanical engineering or relevant experience
  • Knowledge of provincial (Ontario) construction safety legislation
  • Experience in dealing with unionized environments
  • Experience working on construction sites (hydro power plant - an asset)
  • Strong communication skills (spoken and written) at all levels of the organization
  • Leadership skills, team player following company common goals
  • Proven auditor and trainer skills
  • Strong customer service orientation
  • Excellent problem-solving skills (root cause analysis expertise), sound judgment, initiative, and creativity
  • Willingness to travel and flexible with work schedule
