About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Systems Engineering Manager to lead our Systems Engineering team at Ultra Maritime Canada.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Team Leadership: Plan, allocate, and manage Systems Engineers to multiple projects in collaboration with other departments and external stakeholders.
  2. Process Improvement: Identify, develop, and implement process and procedure improvements to meet current and emergent engineering requirements in line with the business strategic vision and Systems Engineering best practices.
  3. Technical Infrastructure: Cooperate with Chief Engineers, Engineering Managers, and Project Managers to provide technical infrastructure, including engineering facilities and tools, required by the Systems Engineering team across all projects.
  4. Talent Acquisition: Recruit Systems Engineers to support short-, medium-, and long-term requirements of bids, projects, and the business.
  5. Training and Development: Identify, plan, develop, and manage training for Systems Engineers to ensure skills and qualifications are appropriate for current and future business needs.
  6. Performance Management: Ensure suitable performance management, mentoring, and coaching is carried out throughout the Systems Engineering team to support staff development and retention.
  7. Succession Planning: Develop and manage succession plans for the Systems Engineering team.
  8. Project Support: Work alongside projects to provide support to ensure delivery milestones are hit.
  9. Design Reviews: Provide oversight and contribute to Design Reviews, including acting as Design Review Chair.
  10. Estimation and Planning: Provide and review plans and estimates for bids and projects.
  11. Culture and Values: Promote positive behaviors, Ultra Maritime values, and a positive vision of the company to the Systems Engineering team.
Requirements
  1. Leadership Experience: Experience leading Systems Engineering teams.
  2. Systems Engineering Knowledge: Detailed knowledge of the Systems Engineering lifecycle and formal processes preferably in the defense sector.
  3. Stakeholder Management: Experience dealing with a wide range of stakeholders including senior management.
  4. Project Lifecycle: Experience across the whole project lifecycle, from bids and proposals through to in-service support.
  5. Qualifications: Degree level (or equivalent experience) in the Systems Engineering discipline.
  6. Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  7. Technical Skills: Use of standard office tools and experience of engineering tools such as DOORS, UML tools, ERPs, and Configuration Management tools.
