Sessional Faculty Position in Leadership Practice
Thompson Rivers University invites applications for a sessional lecturer to teach the course SOCW 4500: Leadership Practice in Social Service Organizations. This course is delivered face-to-face, in-person at the Kamloops campus.
Course Overview:
This course provides a critical introduction to leadership in social service organizations, reviewing organizational theory and its application to government and non-profit organizations. Students explore key organizational skills necessary for effective leadership in organizations through experiential learning methods.
Learning Objectives:
- Describe and critically summarize key organizational and leadership theories
- Describe leadership principles and practices within diverse human service organizations
- Describe the structures and dynamics of social service organizations
- Analyze aspects of social service organizations to identify feminist models, egalitarian/consensus models, culturally diverse models, and their influence on leadership
- Describe social work leadership roles in relation to professional performance, staff evaluation, and supervision
- Describe various aspects of professional practice in organizations
- Describe social work leadership strategies for transformative change in organizations
Qualifications:
- A Master's degree in Social Work is required
- Successful teaching experience in post-secondary institutions is preferred
- A minimum of five years of professional experience working in a social work leadership capacity is required
