Maintenance Operations Manager

GFL Environmental is seeking a highly skilled Maintenance Manager to join our team at our Materials Recovery Facility in Winnipeg, MB.
Job SummaryThe Maintenance Manager will be responsible for the daily management of employees engaged in the maintenance, repair, and servicing of heavy-duty equipment, support equipment, and mechanical infrastructure owned and operated by GFL Environmental.
Key Responsibilities- Develop and implement maintenance plans to ensure equipment availability and meet operational requirements.
- Oversee the preventative maintenance program, annual inspections, and cost control measures associated with maintenance programs and budget targets.
- Manage and develop personnel within the department, including technicians.
- Work with the operational team to ensure equipment needs are met.
- Ensure equipment meets GFL maintenance standards, following policies and local regulations.
- Identify and develop plans to improve department procedures to maximize asset availability.
- Ensure employees comply with health and safety programs.
- Analyze equipment performance and make suggestions for improvements or purchases.
- Review repairs performed by third parties or subcontractors on company equipment.
- Monitor equipment utilization, ensuring adequate spare ratios, technician ratios, and uptime is achieved.
- Work with Operations in the development of the budget for maintenance and replacement of equipment.
- Complete weekly reports for management, including budgeting monthly spend and meeting due dates of reporting.
- Establish equipment management best practices to improve cost control.
- Oversee personal changes, including hiring, training, and development of department employees.
- Ensure staff levels are met to achieve GFL maintenance requirements.
- 4+ years of experience related to the heavy equipment industry, licensed journeyman ticket in heavy equipment or millwright preferred but not required.
- Minimum 3+ years supervisory and people management with significant hands-on experience in leading maintenance teams.
- Demonstrated ability to create a culture of accountability and cross-departmental teamwork.
- Excellent communication skills, management of priorities, and good organizational skills.
- Ability to deal with all levels of management.
- Tactfully dispense direct and actionable feedback; is open and direct with others.
- Ability to perform under pressure and in a fast-paced and rewarding environment.
- Experience in the Waste and Recycling Industry is an asset but not a requirement.
The Maintenance Manager must be able to work inside and/or outside in all different weather conditions, including extreme cold and extreme heat. Work locations could vary from office to boardroom to shop floor.

- Moderate walking, standing, climbing, heavy lifting, carrying, stooping, bending, kneeling, reaching, grasping/gripping, and pushing/pulling.
- Work utilizing personal protective equipment, including hearing protection, safety-toed boot, utility gloves, reflective vest, hearing and eye protection, hard hat, etc.
- Work outside and inside, around moving objects, vehicles, and machinery with moving parts.
- Physically able to lift a minimum of 50 pounds, and push/pull up to 100 pounds.
