We are seeking a highly skilled Group Financial Controls Specialist to join our Group Solutions team at Empire Life. As a key member of our team, you will play a critical role in ensuring the accuracy, reliability, and compliance of our financial systems, processes, and reports.
Key Responsibilities:- Financial Process Improvement: Help define, implement, test, maintain, and support processes and appropriate controls for financial transactions.
- Risk Management: Identify potential risks and control deficiencies, and recommend appropriate actions to mitigate these risks.
- Account Reconciliation: Accurately and timely complete account reconciliations for the Group Finance and Controls Division.
- Financial Analysis: Regularly review complex reconciliations for all Group accounts and resolve financial discrepancies and errors.
- Subject Matter Expert: Act as a subject matter expert and technical liaison for Administrative Service Only (ASO) product and develop controls/processes for new or changing ASO arrangements.
- Month-End Close: Actively manage ASO month-end balancing and reconciliations processes.
- Financial Data Verification: Verify and correct journal entries, ledger balances, and other financial data, coordinating with other business units when necessary.
- Financial Reporting: Compile data from various sources and support the month-end close process, including accruals, adjustments, and month-end analysis for various accounts.
- Financial Compliance: Monitor, review, analyze, and reconcile GL accounts to ensure accuracy and proactively identify and report on variances.
- Process Improvement: Support the design and implementation of controls for new product lines.
- Collaboration: Collaborate with internal and external auditors and submit necessary data/documents.
- Professional Development: Stay up-to-date with industry trends and best practices in financial controls.
- Team Collaboration: Work with other Finance team members to continuously improve and automate team processes and templates.
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
- Professional Designation: Professional designation (e.g., CPA, CFA, ASA) or working towards a designation is an asset.
- Experience: 3-5 years of experience in financial analysis, auditing, or financial controls.
- Knowledge: Knowledge of group benefit contracts and products.
- Technical Skills: Strong working knowledge of spreadsheet and database software, including Microsoft Suite (Excel and Access).
- Language: English language proficiency is required for communicating with customers, advisors, or employees across Canada.
