About the Opportunity
We are seeking an enthusiastic and motivated individual to join our Clean Technologies team as a Sustainability Research Assistant. This temporary position will run from September 2024 to August 2025.
Job Description
The successful candidate will work on high-profile multi-disciplinary applied research projects focused on developing new industrial plastic applications and formulations to improve the sustainability of plastics. The role involves preparing plastics samples for chemical, thermal, and mechanical analysis using extrusion and injection molding equipment, characterizing polymer products using laboratory-based techniques, acquiring data and compiling it in Excel, participating in technical meetings and troubleshooting activities, and communicating results and observations effectively to all project team members including industry partners.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare plastics samples for chemical, thermal, and mechanical analysis
- Assist with characterization of polymer products using laboratory-based techniques
- Acquire data and compile it in Excel
- Participate in technical meetings and troubleshooting activities
- Communicate results and observations effectively to all project team members
Required Skills and Qualifications
To be successful in this role, you must have prior experience in testing or laboratory environment, effective verbal and written communication skills, ability to work in a team, excellent interpersonal skills, effective time management and planning, and proficiency in Microsoft Office applications. You must also be enrolled at NAIT or other community college/polytechnic in Chemical Technology, Mechanical Engineering Technology, Nanotechnology, or equivalent programs.
Salary and Benefits
This position offers a competitive salary of $17.48 per hour, plus 12% in lieu of statutory holidays and vacation pay. We also offer a comprehensive benefits package, including health and dental insurance, retirement savings plan, and paid time off. As a member of the Alberta Union of Provincial Employees (AUPE) Collective Agreement, you will enjoy stable employment, job security, and a range of employee benefits.
